Referral Lab Setup

**A referral message is not a plea. It is a tiny packet of context that helps someone decide whether they can route you forward.**

In Networking for Engineers: How to Reach Out Without Feeling Cringe, we practiced low-friction outreach: specific context, a tiny ask, and a normal human tone.

Now we’ll make that practical for referral requests.

The goal of this lab is to produce messages that are:

  • Specific: one role, one company, one reason you fit.
  • Low-pressure: the other person can say no without awkwardness.
  • Forwardable: they can paste your context into an internal referral tool or email.
  • Credible: your evidence comes from real projects, work, or measurable outcomes.

We are not yet mapping every possible way to find referrers. That comes next in How to Get Referrals Even If You Don’t Know Anyone Inside. Here, we’re sharpening the message itself.
